About Me
Jessica Catalano, NP is a compassionate and nurturing Nurse Practitioner who provides a wide range of health care services at Viva Eve. As Viva Eve’s Lead NP, Jessica renders well-women care and manages and treats a broad scope of obstetric and gynecological conditions.
She is committed to building long lasting relationships by creating a safe and welcoming environment that makes her patients feel comfortable coming to see her with any health issues they may have. Jessica joined our practice after spending many years as the Assistant Nurse Manager at Northwell Health’s main campus at the Katz Women’s Center in Manhasset, Long Island.
Jessica received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Molloy College in Rockville Centre, NY, followed by a Master’s Degree in Nursing from Stony Brook University School of Nursing in Stony Brook, NY.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in women’s health/medicine?
Working in women’s health was a field I was always interested and drawn to. Throughout nursing school my passion was validated, and I knew there wasn’t another specialty for me. I am passionate about making women feel confident in themselves and taking ownership over their health. I try to uplift women and make sure they know they are never alone in taking on and/or confronting issues or obstacles.
How do you practice empathy and compassion with your patients?
When seeing my patients, I always want to make sure they feel heard. I can do this by active listening. By having my patients share their stories, engage in conversation, and being both personal and professional allows for me to form a rapport with them. Creating these connections allows my patients and I to work together when it comes to their healthcare concerns. I always try to keep in mind that we never know what a patient is going through that day, week, or year. I realize in some cases I may be their only shoulder to lean on or outlet to speak to. I take this aspect of my job very seriously, as I want every patient of mine to be the best version of themselves, and walk out of my room with a sigh of relief and a smile on their face.
Name someone who inspired you to pursue a career in medicine.
The person who inspired me to pursue a career in medicine is my mother. Watching my mother go back to school at a later age to get her degree as a registered professional nurse was very motivational for me. Seeing my mother come home genuinely happy for the difference she was making in her patient’s lives encouraged me to want to make a difference as well. My mother instilled in me that being empathetic, caring, and enthusiastic towards nursing would foster meaningful relationships with my patients. I try to bring that same positive outlook, and energy with me every time I walk into my patient’s room.
Hannah I'm so glad I made the switch from my former Ob/Gyn. The whole staff was extremely welcoming and made you feel comfortable. I definitely will be going back.
