Dr. Nithya Gopal is a highly skilled board-certified Ob\/Gyn physician and the Director of Ob\/Gyn services at Viva Eve.<\/p>\n

As a specialist in women\u2019s health, Dr. Gopal aims at promoting optimal wellness for women, with special interest in fibroid management, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, and access to comprehensive reproductive options. She believes in providing patients with all the information they need to make educated decisions about their health care, and is passionate about guiding women through the most important times of their lives, which include adolescence, pregnancy, and menopause.<\/p>\n

Outside of her work at Viva Eve, Dr. Gopal is an active member of Physicians for Human Rights, working alongside Weill Cornell Center for Human Rights and Mount Sinai Human Rights Clinic to aid victims of sexual violence\/trafficking and female genital mutilation to gain asylum in the United States.<\/p>\n

Why did you decide to pursue a career in women\u2019s health\/medicine? <\/span><\/span><\/button><\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tI had always dreamed of a career in medicine as a child, because I knew I wanted to help cure people of illness. It wasn’t until I got to college that I realized the unique capacity of doctors in the field of Obstetrics\/Gynecology to do impactful work. Having the opportunity to go on medical mission trips to low-resource areas of the US and globally, I was able to see that the health of women and girls determines the health and well-being of communities. Women have specific health needs that require an empathetic health care provider, as they transition through the defining stages of their life, from puberty through motherhood and into menopause. I want to play a direct role in advancing the healthcare of all women, which is all too often a secondary priority in our society. \t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tI am most proud of the work I do as an advocate for women’s health equity and human rights — I am an active member of Physicians for Human Rights, Mount Sinai Humans Rights Clinic, and Weill Cornell Center for Human Rights. It gives me an enormous sense of pride to play a small role in facilitating safe harbor for the most vulnerable women in our society. My role in these organizations is to aid victims of female genital mutilation, domestic violence, and sex trafficking in their applications for asylum to the United States. \t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

How do you practice empathy and compassion with your patients?<\/span><\/span><\/button><\/h4>\n\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOne of the best pieces of advice I received as a young doctor-in-training was to treat any patient as if she is my sister or mother. This insight stays with me during all of my patient encounters, and allows me to communicate with empathy and compassion, with the ultimate goal of relieving any fears and anxiety around complex medical diagnoses.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\t<\/div>\n\n<\/section>\n\n
