Sex lives of fibroid patients are improved with\u00a0uterine fibroid embolization (UFE),<\/a>\u00a0a minimally-invasive treatment, according to a French study.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

In the French study, 250 women from 25 French centers underwent UFE treatment for their fibroids. They filled out assessments before the procedure and one year later. The results were presented at the Society of Interventional Radiology\u2019s annual scientific meeting in Vancouver, Canada.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
\n
Significantly, a year after the procedure nearly 80 percent of the women were enjoying improved sexual experiences. The areas studied included pain, desire, arousal, and satisfaction. In addition, 90 percent of the patients had overall quality of life that was better than before they underwent UFE.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

The look at sexual satisfaction was a new focus on a procedure that has been around for women for a while. The study also covered other aspects of UFE and quality of life.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

While 189 women experienced heavy bleeding before the procedure, only 39 had the same symptom a year later. Similarly, while about 170 had fibroid pain, only 42 experienced pain a year afterward. Patients were able to more fully embrace many aspects of normal and active lives as well as their sex lives after UFE.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
